When TONY HAWKERS announced he was a sponsor of CNN, it had been less than a year since he had appeared in the network’s lineup.
The news was greeted with widespread shock and disbelief.
Hawk was in fact just the latest celebrity to be featured in a CNN video, which was released on Wednesday.
In addition to the “New Year’s Resolution” video, a host of others have been featured in the channel’s video, including John Oliver, Stephen Colbert, James Corden, Ellen DeGeneres and comedian Louis C.K. (Corden has also appeared in “New Years Resolution” videos.)CNN has made it clear that the videos are not the final product.
In a statement posted to Twitter on Thursday, a CNN spokesperson said the network was still reviewing all of its partnerships with companies and individuals that use the channel.
“We are constantly evaluating our partnership with our partners and will continue to make sure we are always on the cutting edge of technology, entertainment and journalism,” the statement said.
In a tweet to CNN, Hawk wrote, “I’m not a sponsor, but I’m a fan and proud of the brand I’m part of.”
Hawk’s relationship with CNN goes back to 2016.
He first appeared in a segment for the network that year, and it was the network he started working for that introduced him to CNN.
In 2018, he made his television debut in “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” where he played a prankster who tricked his audience into believing he was Jimmy Fallon, the host of “Jimmy Fallon Tonight.”CNN said it was Hawk who convinced Fallon to host a video for its video show, and that he also helped make the video into a reality.
Hawks first viral appearance came in 2018 when he made headlines when he played his first solo video for “New York’s Finest.”
That video became a viral sensation, garnering over 8 million views in just over a month.
Hawks appearance came a year after his first video, and he had already made a name for himself as a comedian and a performer.
In January of this year, he played host to a livestreamed concert in New York City, where he was joined by “The Voice” alum and “Saturday Night Live” star Kristen Wiig.
That video garnered more than 2.5 million views on YouTube within 24 hours of its premiere.
